How to Write a Narrative Essay
How to Write a Narrative EssayThe first step in learning how to write a narrative essay is to know what to write. Many students, especially those not yet in college, think that any story they can tell about themselves is okay, but if you want to be taken seriously as a writer, make sure that you are telling a story of some kind. If you don't have any stories to tell, then I suggest that you develop one from scratch. This is a story that is just beginning school students' stories; therefore, it needs to be compelling. But the thing is, it has to be entertaining as well. The way to do this is to think of a particular point that is central to the story and make sure that the ending point is equally important.Narrative essays can be educational or instructive. Either way, they should have a strong beginning and a middle section to build on. For instance, the first paragraph should tell the story in a manner that is easy to follow while the second paragraph, if you have one, should explain what you learned in the beginning part of the story. The last paragraph of the story can have the most difficult part if you haven't learned anything. This is where you will find out what you need to learn and the rest of the story should flow smoothly from there. There are so many points that a beginning writer should put down before he has to stop the story.Of course, the easiest part of the writing process is in the middle. You need to make sure that the middle portion of the story is complete, however, there is no set time limit for this. You can just move through the middle of the essay as fast as you wish to get to the end. At times, you may find yourself needing to pause so that you can keep things interesting or even throw in a few detours along the way.The easiest way to get an outline that is not too dry is to use a whiteboard. A highlighter or two is also a good idea. Just remember that you do not want your outline to look too choppy.Once you've got a quick outline, you w ill notice that you won't always remember all of the necessary information. That's why it's important to make notes, keep a journal, and actually sit down and actually write down what you did before the paper is due. Writing a narrative essay is all about having fun with the whole project and making sure that you don't take it too seriously.
